Auto review: 2025 Volvo XC90 deserves all the accolades
Published in Automotive News
Volvo is known for its superior automotive design, maintaining a high standard for style, comfort and luxury in all of their vehicles. For 2025, Volvo has redesigned its flagship SUV, the XC90, and its unique style will have the competition going back to the drawing board to keep up. With a base price of $80,000, the 6-seater XC90 holds nothing back.
The XC90 T8 is powered by a direct-injected, turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, along with an electric motor and battery. Paired with the eight-speed Geartronic automatic transmission and packing 455 horsepower and 523 pound-feet of torque, the XC90 had plenty of get up and go. We traveled 32 miles on electric charge alone and 530 miles overall. Riding on 21-inch 5-multi spoke black diamond cut wheels and all-season tires, the XC90 AWD was ready for everything and looked great.
Our Mulberry Red tester was very appealing to the eye, while the Cardamon Nappa leather interior was very stylish. As someone who drives a lot, I appreciate a fine ride and comfort on the inside, and Volvo delivers again with the XC90. There was plenty of legroom for all passengers and the driver. The 11.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system was easy to use and the 12.3-inch digital drivers display was good. An upgraded Bowers and Wilkins Premium Sound system and a lounge package with massaging seats were also added. Air Ride suspension was just the cherry on top for an ultra-luxurious ride.
Automakers often aim to maintain a niche, be it service, warranty, value or the like. For Volvo, the goals have been comfort, style and technology, while still capitalizing on price and checking a lot of consumer wants and needs. With Geely as its parent company since late 2010, Volvo has maintained chart-topping driving quality and comfort. The 2025 XC90 is another outstanding release, one deserving World Car Awards accolades.
