Pioneering bassist Carol Kaye says she’s boycotting this year’s Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony.

The 90-year old musician, considered one of the most recorded bass guitarists in rock and pop history, announced Wednesday in a since-deleted social media post that she’ll be declining her invitation.

“People have been asking: NO I won’t be there,” she wrote on Facebook. “I am declining the RRHOF awards show (and Denny Tedesco process)… because it wasn’t something that reflects the work that Studio Musicians do and did in the golden era of the 1960s Recording Hits.”

Kaye was part of a group of sought-after Los Angeles session musicians later known as the Wrecking Crew, which often collaborated with Frank Sinatra, the Beach Boys, Phil Spector, the 5th Dimension, the Monkees and more throughout the 1960s and ‘70s.

Tedesco, whose father Tommy Tedesco was a guitarist with the collective, directed “The Wrecking Crew!” documentary in 2008, which featured Kaye. However, she has long objected to the group moniker.

“I was never a ‘wrecker’ at all,” Kaye wrote in the Facebook post. “That’s a terrible insulting name.”

“I refuse to be part of a process that is something else rather than what I believe in, for others’ benefit and not reflecting on the truth,” she concluded. “We all enjoyed working with EACH OTHER.”

With an estimated 10,000 credits spanning 65 years, Kaye was announced in April to receive the Musical Excellence Award at the 2025 induction ceremony. Other inductees this year include Outkast, Bad Company, Joe Cocker, Chubby Checker, Cyndi Lauper, Soundgarden and the White Stripes.

Despite her absence at the event, Kaye will still be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame — set to take place on Nov. 8 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. The induction ceremony will air live on Disney+.
