You have questions. I have some answers.

Q: What happened to Hilary Farr on “Love It or List It”?

A: Back in 2023, Farr decided to leave the long-running HGTV show. “It was becoming too easy,” she told People.com. “I was in a rut. It's been so many years. … [T]his show has encompassed a divorce, cancer, my son getting married, my son having three children, my long-term relationship breaking up.” Looking at life – especially as a cancer survivor – she said, “You want to feel that every day is something different and special and grasp for those challenges. That's really what I think drives me, anyway.”

Q: I live in Pittsburgh and our beloved baseball team isn’t doing too well, last place in their division. Some of my family think this is not our year, but an uncle says, “It’s not over until the fat lady sings.” Was that “fat lady sings” from a movie? Or another comment made by a witty uncle?

A: There’s a long history around the phrase – most commonly “the opera ain’t over until the fat lady sings” – which analysts trace to variations such as “church isn’t over until the choir stops singing.” (One long consideration of the issue is on quoteinvestigator.com.) "The Yale Book of Quotations" credits the opera line to Ralph Carpenter, then sports information director for Texas Tech, who used it during a close basketball game in 1976. It was popularized by others, notably Dick Motta in 1978 when he was coach of the NBA’s Washington Bullets (now the Wizards).

Q: Jimmy Stewart and John Wayne are two iconic actors, especially in Westerns. I know of only one Western where the two starred together, “The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance.” Am I missing others?

A: Stewart had a significant supporting role in “The Shootist,” where Wayne – in his last movie appearance – played a dying gunfighter. Stewart and Wayne also appeared in “How the West Was Won,” an epic western (and the rare film in Cinerama), although they did not have any scenes together.

Q: On ABC will there be a second season of “High Potential”? I really enjoyed that show.

A: It will be back with new episodes this fall. The network has it set for Tuesday nights following “Dancing with the Stars.”

Q: Is “Tracker” on CBS likely to be renewed for a second season? We find the undercover detective, Colter Shaw, compelling and mysterious.

A: The hit series starring Justin Hartley will begin a second season on October 13, Sundays after “60 Minutes.”

Q: I really got into the Paramount+ series “Mobland.” Is there any word on a second season?

A: There’s no official word yet about the crime drama starring Tom Hardy, Pierce Brosnan and Helen Mirren. But the signs appear to be positive, with one report saying renewal is “practically guaranteed.”
